The Air Conditioning Mechanic installs, maintains, inspects and repairs refrigeration and air conditioning equipment, pneumatic and electronic controls, heating and cooling facilities and does general maintenance work in all HVAC equipment.

Must perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the hospital s policies and procedures, including its Service Standards and its Code of Conduct.
- Assists other crafts on shutdowns involving heating and cooling, and power supply for refrigerated system.
- Does chemical treatment of water on the heating and cooling loop to prevent corrosion and scale formation.
- Makes necessary test to determine quality of water in the system.
- Does preventive maintenance work on HVAC equipment in accordance with the correct procedures and recommends changes in existing equipment and conditions for better operating efficiency.
- Installs new air conditioning units and systems, connecting the systems to required services and testing for proper operation.
- Installs, calibrates, and maintains manual, automatic pneumatic and electronic controls on all HVAC equipment.
- Obtains assistance when necessary on complicated electronics or pneumatic controls.
- Maintains tools, equipment and work area assigned.
- Prepares requisitions for supplies or materials required for given, authorized work in accordance with established procedures.
- Performs welding and brazing, and soldering on HVAC equipment in accordance with recognized and proper procedures.
- Repairs, maintains, and diagnoses problems regarding centralized air handling units for both electrical and pneumatic controls, including refrigerated air conditioning units, and walk in boxes, cold rooms and chillers for certain areas.
- Responds to complaints for heating or cooling and makes adjustments to bring it up to the necessary comfort levels as required by the occupants.
- Tests and balances the heating, cooling, ventilating, and air conditioning to conform to the proper specifications and code requirements.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.
Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
Experience: Two (2) years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience.
License/Certification
- EPA
608 - HVAC Universal Cert by Environment Protection Agency - or
- HVAC Freon Certification by Environment Protection Agency
- Ability to adapt to and deal with change and ambiguity.
- Ability to operate standard tools, instruments and equipment used on the job.
- Ability to plan, organize, prioritize, work independently and meet deadlines.
