DESCRIPTION:
Anchored in the Wu Tsai Neurosciences Institute and the Office of the Dean of Research, the new Knight Initiative in Brain Resilience is a cross‑disciplinary scientific endeavor aimed at addressing neurodegeneration, aging and brain resilience. Diseases and associated issues of cognitive decline like Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, dementia, and related ailments are increasing with our rapidly aging global population. Stanford seeks to advance a new era of brain science focused on accelerating the fundamental understanding of the aging brain, both the biological causes of neurodegeneration and how to increase brain resilience throughout the lifespan.
Our community ranges broadly, consisting of esteemed alumni, world‑class faculty and students, dynamic staff and administrators and include some of the world's most successful leaders in neuroscience. In realizing our mission, our staff are critical to supporting our organization’s goals and enabling Stanford faculty and students to accomplish its mission conducting cutting‑edge research with the objective of formulating innovative solutions to brain‑aging, disease, neurodegeneration, dementia and resilience.
The Knight Initiative for Brain Resilience is seeking a Life Sciences Professional 2 to perform various functions and activities involved in research projects dedicated to brain aging and resilience. This position will be responsible for planning and executing genomics and multi‑omics experiments, analyzing data, and interpreting results in support of ongoing research projects. The individual in this role will specialize in genomics, liquid handling, and sequencing, and will be expected to take ownership of their assigned portion of the research and make recommendations on experimental design and/or research direction to the principal investigator as needed.
This position will also be responsible for developing new research protocols where appropriate protocols are not described in the literature or where modification or adaptation of standard procedures and protocols is required.
