Position: Life Science Research Professional 1 (1-Year Fixed-Term)

Life Science Research Professional (LSRP) 1 The Division of Medical Physics in the Department of Radiation Oncology seeks an LSRP to design, train, and optimize machine learning and AI models for cancer imaging, genomics, and diagnostics in the lab of Dr. Md Tauhidul Islam. The role will support research projects, maintain detailed experiment records, evaluate model accuracy, and integrate AI solutions into production environments.

The initial term is one year. The LSRP will work under the direction and supervision of faculty.

Duties
  • Plan experimental approaches to support research projects in the lab and/or field based on scientific theory, including preparing cancer imaging and genomics data sets for model training.
  • Independently conduct experiments, maintain detailed records, and run training and inference of AI models for cancer diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment.
  • machine learning theories and methods to interpret experiment results and suggest modifications to procedures and protocols in collaboration with senior researchers.
  • Review literature continuously to remain current with new procedures and apply learnings to related research.
  • Contribute to publication of findings, prepare written documents, procedures, presentations, and proposals.
  • Help general lab maintenance, manage chemical inventory, safety records, and general lab support.
  • Assist orientation and training of new staff or students on lab procedures or techniques.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
Desired Qualifications

Master’s degree in computational biology, computer science, biomedical engineering, genomics, or a related subject/area.

Education & Experience (required)

Bachelor's degree in a related scientific field.

Physical Requirements
  • Frequently stand, walk, twist, bend, stoop, squat, grasp lightly, use fine manipulation, grasp forcefully, perform desk‑based computer tasks, use telephone, write by hand, lift, carry, push and pull objects weighing over 40 pounds.
  • Occasionally sit, kneel, crawl, reach and work above shoulders, sort and file paperwork or parts.
  • Rarely climb, scrub, sweep, mop, chop and mix or operate hand and foot controls.
  • Must have correctable vision to perform duties of the job.
  • Ability to bend, squat, kneel, stand, reach above shoulder level, and move on hard surfaces for up to eight hours.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in a dusty, dirty, and odorous environment.
  • Position may require repetitive motion.
