Position: Research Nurse 1

Research Nurse – Clinical and Translational Research Unit (CTRU), Stanford Medicine

We are seeking a dedicated Research Nurse to support over 200‑300 clinical trials and research projects, bringing clinical expertise to ensure the safe and compliant execution of study protocols at Stanford Medicine.

Responsibilities
  • Support the safety of study participants and maintain communication with their families/caregivers and clinicians.
  • Provide clinical and administrative nursing support for research clinical trials based on scope of practice, collaborating with clinical staff, researchers, outside vendors, and other staff to administer treatment and study protocols, and may coordinate multi‑site studies.
  • Conduct study participant evaluations per study protocol, assess adverse events, and exercise triage and judgment to determine appropriate actions.
  • Administer medications and treatments per study protocol and may collect, process, and ship laboratory specimens.
  • Comply with institutional policies, SOPs, and guidelines; prepare and submit documentation required by study protocol, sponsor, and regulatory authorities, and manage essential regulatory documents while handling confidential information in compliance with HIPAA.
  • Supervise research staff, coordinating staffing or scheduling assignments as needed.
  • Participate in budget preparation and billing reconciliation.
  • Identify, recruit, and enroll study participants and participate in the informed consent process.
  • Participate and host monitor visits.
  • Assist sponsor investigators with Investigational New Drug/Investigational Device Exemption applications.
  • Other duties may be assigned as needed.

  • Ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with internal and external colleagues in a clinical research environment.
Education & Experience (Required)

Bachelor’s degree in nursing or equivalent, and two years of nursing experience, preferably in a research setting.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (Required)
  • Demonstrated ability to work with research subjects of all ages and backgrounds.
  • Verbal and written communication skills to convey medical and research‑related information to subjects of all ages.
  • Ability to identify confidential and sensitive information (written and verbal).
  • Ability to implement key clinical practices in all interactions with study participants, families, and colleagues.
  • Ability to identify adverse reactions to study treatments and document these appropriately per protocol.
  • Ability to implement study protocols under supervision.
  • Ability to direct work of research support staff.
  • Understanding of good clinical practices and regulatory compliance.
  • Experience with electronic data capture, including database management.
  • Ability to perform the functions of the position with some supervision.
Certifications & Licenses
  • Current license as a California Registered Nurse.
  • Current basic CPR certification.
Physical Requirements
  • Frequently stand/walk, sit, perform desk‑based computer tasks, use a telephone, write by hand, sort/file paperwork, twist/bend/stoop/squat, and grasp lightly/fine‑manipulation.
  • Occasionally reach/work above shoulders, grasp forcefully, operate foot/hand controls.
