0.6 FTE Part time Rotating - 12 Hour (Onsite).
Location:
Stanford Health Care, 500 Pasteur Dr, Palo Alto, CA. Inpatient multi-site coverage on the neurosurgery service. The service operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including weekends and holidays. This role is for a 0.9 FTE Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant, or Clinical Nurse Specialist) working with APPs and house staff to care for neurosurgery patients in the ICU and on the floors.
Common diagnoses include CNS tumors, movement disorders, intracranial hemorrhages, and spine pathology. The position offers involvement in initial diagnosis, treatment, and preoperative and postoperative care.

What You Will Do- Perform complete/comprehensive history and physical examinations, order and interpret diagnostic studies, and prescribe appropriate treatments in collaboration with the attending physician.
- Consult with specialist physicians and other team members regarding patient condition changes and perform procedures per policy.
- Engage in learning opportunities including teaching on rounds, weekly conferences, monthly staff meetings, and clinical care conferences.
- Ensure clinical practices align with C-I-CARE Standards for patient-centered interactions; use defined C-I-CARE communication templates when interacting with patients and staff.
- Provide medical services within the PA scope of practice, as delegated by supervising physicians, and consult a physician when tasks exceed competence.
- Evaluate and treat patients with acute and chronic concerns related to neurosurgery; obtain histories, perform exams, and assess findings.
- Order and evaluate diagnostic studies, administer medications within formulary protocol, and manage controlled substances under physician approval as required.
- Order and collect specimens for routine laboratory tests and other procedures; order physical therapy, occupational therapy, respiratory therapy, radiology, and nursing services as appropriate.
- Perform designated procedures after demonstrated competency; obtain informed consent and arrange hospital admissions and discharges; coordinate enrollment in investigational studies when approved by the IRB.
- Assist in the operating room under supervision; participate as first or second assistant when directed.
- Recognize age-specific needs, communicate effectively with diverse patients and families, and initiate life-saving interventions when required.
- Coordinate inpatient and outpatient care, facilitate collaboration between providers and community resources, ensure compliance with policies and procedures, participate in quality improvement, and provide patient teaching and counseling.
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing from an accredited university.

PAs hired prior to July 1, 2012 are not subject to this educational requirement. - Graduate of a PA program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant, Inc. (ARC-PA).

Base Pay Scale:
Generally starting at $89.01 - $117.94 per hour. Final salary will be set based on factors including internal equity, experience, education, specialty, and training.
