Contract Clinical Nurse – CVOR / CVICU
Location: Palo Alto, CA
Contract Assignment
Pay Range: $55 - $96 / hour
OverviewWe are seeking experienced Clinical Nurses (RN) with a background in Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) and/or Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) for contract opportunities in Palo Alto, CA. This role provides hands-on, evidence-based nursing care in accordance with the California Nursing Practice Act, regulatory standards, and organizational policies. Nurses will work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality, patient- and family-centered care for complex cardiovascular patients.
Responsibilities- Deliver comprehensive nursing care using the full nursing process: assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation
- Provide perioperative and/or critical care services to cardiovascular and thoracic surgery patients
- Create a healing, supportive environment for patients and families by offering education, emotional support, and clear communication
- Interpret clinical data, recognize normal vs. abnormal findings, and respond rapidly to changes in patient condition
- Safely implement nursing and medical interventions and monitor patient responses and potential complications
- Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary care teams to develop and adjust individualized plans of care
- Educate patients and families on self-care, recovery expectations, and illness prevention
- Support unit operations through teamwork, prioritization, and participation in quality and safety initiatives
- Utilize clinical technology for documentation, communication, and patient care delivery
- Participate in professional development, shared governance, and mentoring or precepting as needed
- CVOR-focused nurses may scrub and/or circulate cardiovascular, vascular, and thoracic surgeries
- CVICU-focused nurses provide post-operative and critical care monitoring for cardiac and vascular patients
- Active California RN license
- Current BLS (American Heart Association) required
- Minimum 2 years of recent CVICU experience OR
- 3+ years of recent CVOR experience (scrub and/or circulate)
- Strong clinical judgment and ability to respond effectively in high-acuity situations
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a fast-paced, team-focused environment
- BSN from an accredited nursing program
- Ability to scrub and circulate complex cardiovascular, vascular, and thoracic cases
- Experience in a Level 1 Academic Medical Center
- Prior travel or contract assignment experience
- Flexibility for rotating shifts and call requirements

- Shift: Rotating day shifts; call required (CVOR)
- Setting: High-acuity cardiovascular surgical and critical care environment

Pay Details: $55.00 to $96.00 per hour
