A Brief Overview:
The Clinical Nurse (CN) is an RN who provides hands-on care to patients, practicing in an evidence-based manner within the Scope of Practice of the California Nursing Practice Act, regulatory requirements, standards of care, and hospital policies. The CN performs all steps of the nursing process: assessing patients; interpreting data; planning, implementing, and evaluating care; coordinating care with other providers;

and teaching the patient and family the knowledge and skills needed to manage their care and prevent complications. The CN partners with the patient s family wherever possible, delivering family-centered care and monitoring the quality of nursing care provided. The CN is responsible for their own professional development, including licensure and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, and maintaining current knowledge regarding the assigned patient population.

What You Will Do
  • The Helping Role Establishes Therapeutic Relationships:
    Create and maintain a climate conducive to healing; be present to the patient and family; identify and manage discomfort; provide emotional support and information; guide the patient and family through illness and recovery, aligned with their goals and culture.
  • Mobilizes the patient s strengths and abilities toward participation in recovery and control over the plan of care.
  • Diagnostic and Monitoring Functions:
    Obtain accurate assessment data, interpret data, determine nursing diagnosis, and monitor data for stability; adjust as needed.
  • Plans and Implements Therapeutic Interventions:
    Collaborate with patient, family, and health care team to develop an individualized plan; implement safety nursing and medical interventions; evaluate effectiveness and monitor for adverse responses and side effects.
  • Teaching and

    Coaching:

    Assess learning needs, teach needed information for self-care and prevention, and adjust education based on response, patient condition, and cultural factors.
  • Teach other staff members through informal or formal roles (e.g., preceptor or super-user).
  • Effective Management of Rapidly Changing Situations:
    Rapidly grasp problems and respond quickly; activate emergency protocols when needed.
  • Monitor and Ensure Quality Healthcare Practices:
    Monitor own practice and assist others in safety and policy compliance; look for opportunities for continuous improvement in patient care and work environment.
  • Organization and Work Role Functions:
    Prioritize, delegate appropriately, and seek assistance as needed.
  • Contribute to team building, participate in unit programs and meetings, and support positive morale and constructive conflict resolution.
  • Management and Delegation:
    Utilize available technology for communication, documentation, and accessing information on unusual clinical situations, diagnoses, and treatments.
  • Contribute to the knowledge and skill of nursing staff through teaching, governance participation, publications or presentations.
  • Education:

    Attain knowledge and competence that reflects current nursing practice; demonstrate commitment to lifelong learning.
  • Communication:
    Communicate effectively in a variety of formats across practice areas.
  • Leadership:
    Demonstrate leadership in professional practice and the profession.
  • Professional Practice Evaluation:
    Evaluate own nursing practice against standards and guidelines, relevant statutes, rules and regulations.
Education Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited college or university preferred.
Experience Qualifications
  • 2 years (post residency) experience as a Registered Nurse
  • Ambulatory experience preferred
  • Experience with in Oral Surgery/Dental Medicine preferred
Required Knowledge,

Skills And Abilities
  • Able to communicate effectively in English.
Licenses and Certifications
  • Current American Heart Association Certification for Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers.
  • CA-RN (Registered Nurse).
Physical Demands and Work Conditions
  • Frequent physical exertion including lifting of patients and equipment, bending and stooping, and walking. Moderate risks or discomforts requiring safety precautions, such as exposure to contagious disease, radiation, infection, or working with emotionally disturbed patients. Protective clothing or gear may be required.
Blood Borne Pathogens
  • Category I – Tasks involving exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues.
