About Kara
As a nonprofit organization serving the San Francisco Bay Area since 1976, Kara provides comprehensive bereavement support, grief education, and crisis response to individuals and communities facing the difficult realities of death and dying. Serving 5,000 individuals annually, Kara provides a wide breadth of grief support and education services to the community including: individual and group peer support; in-house psychotherapy; on-site crisis intervention;
bereavement education and training services;
Camp Kara, a bereavement camp for children 6-17 years old; and community events.
About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated and organized individual to join our Youth & Family Services team. This role is crucial in providing essential operational and administrative support across a range of our youth and family programs. The ideal candidate will be a proactive and compassionate individual with strong organizational skills, excellent communication abilities, and a passion for supporting youth and families.
As the Youth & Family Services Program Coordinator, you will play a vital role in maintaining our records management systems, supporting volunteers, assisting with client services, and providing operational support for key programs such as our peer support groups, Camp Kara, and the Journeys Program school-based support. You will also contribute to special projects, resource development, and agency-wide client service operations.
You will work collaboratively with the Youth & Family Services Director and other team members to ensure the smooth operation of our programs. This position offers a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of youth and families in our community.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide operational support in maintaining the Youth & Family records management systems including client and volunteer records, group management and attendance, surveys, evaluations and service statistics.
- Provide support to volunteers through guidance and assistance of facilitator groups as well as preparation and implementation of volunteer training.
- Provide client service support by assisting with client communications, including assistance with client service calls and intakes.
- Provide operational and administrative support for Camp Kara, including support during the camp weekend.
- Provide operational and administrative support for the Journeys Program, and assist the Youth and Family Services Director with client support, which may include co-facilitating school-based peer support groups for students, and conducting trainings, workshops, and consultations to school-based staff.
- Provide support for special projects, including advertising and mailings, website info updates, and in-service workshops.
- Assist with updating and developing resources to support all of Youth and Family Services programs.
- Assist with agency-wide client service operations and other program support duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent
- Commitment to Kara’s mission, vision, and guiding value of compassion
- Client focused with genuine compassion, empathy, and a deep understanding of the variety of issues and tasks facing children, teens and families dealing with grief and loss
- Excellent communication skills – with a strong command of the English language, both written and verbal, and comfort with public speaking
- Proven quality control, demonstrating consistent detailed data accuracy and thoroughness
- Possess strong interpersonal skills with a history of being an outstanding and effective collaborator
- Effective team builder and team player with a positive attitude and sense of humor
- Excellent organizational, prioritization, time management, planning and problem-solving skills
- Quick to learn and implement new ideas with self-awareness and willingness to ask for assistance in a timely fashion
- Flexible, innovative, resourceful strategic thinker, with strong initiative and follow-through skill
- Ability to work successfully under pressure, adapt, problem-solve, and handle competing priorities with minimal supervision in an organized, thoughtful manner
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Docs, database-related software applications and familiarity with creative design software and other office equipment
- Ability to work evenings and weekends
Preferred Qualifications
- Bi-lingual in English and any other language
- Work with youth in camp, school or group settings
- Experience as a Kara volunteer or similar program requiring understanding of grief support structures
- Non-profit / Social Services / Health Care experience
