This position will manage Virology, Microbiology, Special Chemistry, and BCG (Infectious Disease and Esoteric testing).

This is a Stanford Health Care job.

A Brief Overview

Manages the operations and services delivery of assigned areas of responsibility for the Anatomic Pathology and Clinical Laboratories. Ensures that programs, policies, and procedures are established and implemented to meet customer needs, department standards, and regulatory agency requirements.

Assesses and determines the staffing needs and practices of the department to optimize the utilization of personnel. Provides leadership and direction to staff in the achievement of business objectives. Ensures operational effectiveness and productivity needs are met.

What You Will Do
  • Manages the operations and services delivery of assigned areas of responsibility for the clinical laboratories. Ensure that programs, policies and procedures are developed and implemented in accordance with department, quality and regulatory agency requirements.
  • Maintains and meets laboratory regulatory requirements at optimum level including staff competency and training.
  • Provide leadership to supervisors and staff in the implementation of new processes and techniques.
  • Collaborate with Laboratory and Medical Directors, as well as external stakeholders in establishing strategic plans and developing new programs to improve efficiency, quality, compliance, service and financial outcomes for the laboratories.
  • Develop, administer, and monitor the operating budget and cost accounting data for assigned area of responsibility. Collaborate with the Laboratory leadership team and Finance Director to ensure that capital and operating budget needs are developed, implemented, and monitored to meet the financial goals of the organization.
  • Manage operational issues related to Laboratory Information System (LIS) and provide leadership in the development and maintenance of the LIS. Provide input and operational decisions in the implementation of information systems projects and feedback for future information technology.
  • Support the development and implementation of quality assurance programs; provide leadership and support to the section supervisors and staff to develop systems and tools to measure satisfaction and quality of care against industry benchmarks.
  • Rotate as lab manager‑on‑call for the consolidated laboratories and under the guidance of the medical director or director of operations, directs response to critical or emergent situations.
Education Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a work‑related discipline/field from an accredited college or university.
Experience Qualifications
  • Five (5) years of progressively responsible directly related work experience.

  • Ability to plan, organize, develop tactical plans and set priorities.

  • Knowledge of section specific laboratory sciences.
  • Knowledge of laboratory controls, methods, procedures and regulations.
  • Knowledge of mathematics, general science and laboratory techniques.
Licenses and Certifications
  • CLS® or other related certification or background.
