Job DescriptionThe Assistant Manager Facilities Operations is responsible for assisting the Manager in planning, organizing and supervising assigned activities of the Engineering & Maintenance (E&M) Department and services functions, which are necessary in maintaining the physical structures, HVAC, mechanical, electrical systems, utilities and grounds of the hospital in an operative and safe working condition. This position helps plan and maintain an effective organization by administering labor and material controls, safety training of maintenance personnel in operations and maintenance of all buildings, structures, and equipment.
Oversees finished trade and exterior equipment/grounds maintenance, fleet management, inventory process, procedure development process, existing employee core competencies, and new employee onboarding.

Essential FunctionsThe essential functions listed are typical examples of work performed by positions in this job classification. Must perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the hospital’s policies and procedures, including its Service Standards and its Code of Conduct.
- Oversees day‑to‑day operations of the maintenance programs for finished trades and exterior equipment/grounds. Reviews tasks, schedules staff according to demands and budget allocation, sets priorities and revises workflow to effectively facilitate customer and departmental needs.
- Assists in the strategic assessment of the effectiveness of current programs in achieving organization objectives and predictive/preventive engineering maintenance programs to ensure uninterrupted operations of the hospital. Identifies best practices and benchmarks and develops recommendations for modifications to assure maximum effectiveness of hospital operations.
- In collaboration with the Manager, designs, establishes, and maintains an organizational structure and staffing to effectively accomplish the organization’s goals and objectives. Recruits, employs, trains, supervises, and evaluates staff ensuring continuing education in the repair and maintenance of all equipment. Oversees the design and implementation of maintenance projects, initiatives, and services that are responsive to needs and objectives of the institution.
- Creates standard structure for work schedules and job assignments. Places orders for materials, supplies, and parts. Recommends use of outside specialty contractors as necessary. Effectively manages and collaborates with vendors and external partners, including managing performance of contracts to ensure maximum values of services is delivered.
