Job SummaryUnder the direct supervision of the Grounds Supervisor, the horticultural technician is responsible for the care and maintenance of the irrigation system, the turf areas, equipment (hand, gas and electric) care and maintenance and other assignments given to him by the Grounds Supervisor. The technician will anticipate problems and solve them with minimal downtime, maintain a part inventory, and work with the supervisor to keep operations running at maximum efficiency.
EssentialFunctions
Employees must abide by all Joint Commission Requirements including but not limited to sensitivity to cultural diversity, patient care, patient rights and ethical treatment, safety and security of physical environments, emergency management, teamwork, respect for others, participation in ongoing education and training, communication and adherence to safety and quality programs, sustaining compliance with National Patient Safety Goals, and licensure and health screenings.
They must also perform all duties in accordance with hospital policies, the Service Standards and the Code of Conduct.
- Maintains the grounds of the hospital.
- Cuts and waters lawns.
- Maintains other plants.
- Operates and maintains electrical and gas‑powered gardening equipment including mowers.
- Operates and maintains sprinkler systems.
- Recognizes and eliminates potential hazards associated with adults and children.
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as possession of required licenses or certifications.
EducationHigh School diploma/GED or trade school equivalent in a work-related field.
ExperienceOne (1) year of directly related work experience.
Knowledge- Ability to establish and maintain respectful relationships with a diverse population.
- Ability to prioritize work assignments and use time efficiently.
- Ability to work as a member of the team and with temporary help.
- Knowledge and thorough understanding of the mechanics and principles involved in above ground and underground sprinklers.
- Knowledge of garden equipment for digging, raking, weeding; care of the lawn; pruning and chainsaws; watering; and pest control.
- Knowledge of how to test for sprinkler coverage and depth of penetration.
- Knowledge of the care and maintenance of electrical and gas‑powered equipment.
- Knowledge of the types of mowers, frequency of mowing, moving height for different grasses, fertilizing, pH testing, soil sampling, and mower maintenance.

Additional Information Pay RangeCompensation is based on the level and requirements of the role. Salary within our ranges may also be determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, location, and abilities, as required by the role, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. Typically, new team members join at the minimum to mid salary range.
Minimum to Midpoint Range (Hourly): $36.73 to $41.19
