Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry. This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications.

The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

SCOPE/PURPOSE OF POSITION

Develop, configure and support network devices and solutions to align with Corning’s technology standards and meet the connectivity needs of our businesses.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Serve as network subject matter expert, providing technical expertise, and expert operational support to a complex global network environment.
  • Act in the capacity of Network Operations DDI expert.
  • Monitor and maintain network infrastructure.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve network issues to ensure minimal downtime and optimal performance.
  • Collaborate with IT teams in cross-functional troubleshooting.
  • Maintain documentation network processes and procedures up to date.
  • Perform RCA (root cause analysis) on issues, taking preventative measures to avoid reoccurrence.
  • Collaborate with Architect and Engineering teams to improve the network reliability and performance.
  • Application transport and network infrastructure protocols, such as EIGRP, BGP, and OSPF.
  • Evaluate and refine handover and training documentation provided by engineering teams.
  • Participate in on-call rotation for after-hours network support.
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE
  • 4-year degree in Information Technology or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with network monitoring and management tools in a large enterprise environment. Experience with issue troubleshooting and resolution, incident and change ticket management, in a large enterprise environment.
  • 3+ years’ experience of campus network operation, redundant network design and maintenance and troubleshooting for cross site WAN/LAN performance or routing issues.
  • Experience analyzing requirements for implementing, supporting, and troubleshooting network devices/functions/tools/processes is a plus.
REQUIRED SKILLS
  • Strong knowledge of DHCP and IP address management, including administration, monitoring and troubleshooting.
  • Experience in management and troubleshooting of DNS.
  • Understanding of network protocols and technologies (e.g., TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs).
  • Skilled in configuring and managing network devices (e.g., routers, switches, wireless).
  • Configuring and using monitoring/alerting/forensic tools (e.g. Solar Winds, Net Brain, CACTI, Wireshark).
  • Experience with network security practices and tools (e.g., NAC).
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including ability to communicate clearly in English.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a global team.
  • Cisco or Arista H/W experience is also mandatory (Layer 2, Layer 3 switches, also experience on Cisco Switch redundancy design).
  • Must be a self-starter, able to work in team environment.
DESIRED SKILLS
