Stanford University School of Medicine is world-renowned for leading-edge education, research, patient care, and medical advancements. The Department of Educational Programs and Services (EPS) is home to departments and programs that are central to the educational mission of the Stanford University School of Medicine. Department Information

The Stanford Medicine Postbaccalaureate (Postbac) Program at Stanford University School of Medicine is dedicated to training a new generation of leaders in Science, Technology, Engineering, Math and Medicine (STEMM). This program supports participants in pursuing a variety of basic, translational, and clinical research interests, and supports the preparation for careers in science and medicine.

Job Purpose

The Stanford Medicine Postbac Program seeks skilled and motivated Life Science Research Professionals 1 (LSRP) to work under general guidance from the Primary Investigator and senior lab members to a broad array of biomedical sciences and report to the Postbac Program Director. Performance of technical procedures, interpretation of results, recognition of irregularities, and recommendations for modification of techniques and approaches will be an essential part of this role.

The LSRP may assist in training new staff and students on techniques as necessary, as well as assisting with duties such as ordering supplies, maintaining lab records, and adhering to all Stanford safety regulations. As part of the Stanford Medicine Postbac program, the LSRP will also participate in academic, professional, and community development activities.

The LSRP must be self‑motivated, technically adept, accurate, efficient, organized and keep detailed records. The ability to work under tight deadlines with general guidance is essential. The LSRP must also have basic computer skills (including but not limited to Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint). In addition, the LSRP must have excellent communication skills with the ability to work independently as well as in a team.

This is a one-year fixed-term position.

This position will be based on‑site on the Stanford campus. This refers primarily to the Stanford School of Medicine campus but may include satellite locations such as Stanford Redwood City, Veterans Affairs Palo Alto Health Care System, Stanford Blood Center or others.

Core Duties
  • Plan and perform experiments in support of research projects in lab and/or field based on knowledge of scientific theory. Interpret and perform basic analyses of results.
  • Review literature on an ongoing basis to remain current with new procedures and related research.
  • Offer suggestions regarding modifications to procedures and protocols in collaboration with senior lab members.
  • Maintain detailed records of experiments and outcomes.
  • Contribute to publication of findings as needed. Participate in the preparation of written documents, including procedures, presentations, and proposals.
  • Help with general lab maintenance as needed; maintain lab stock, manage chemical inventory and safety records, and provide general lab support as needed.
  • Help orient and train new staff or students.
  • Other duties may also be assigned.
Education & Experience (Required)

Bachelor’s degree in related scientific field.
