As a Major Gifts Development Officer within Stanford Medicine’s Medical Center Development team, you will partner with gift officers and senior leadership to secure major gifts that support Stanford’s biomedical research and patient care initiatives.
Key Responsibilities- Fundraising and Portfolio/Pipeline Development;
Faculty Management (30%)- Build and develop a portfolio of prospects in the Biomedical Discovery team to cultivate, solicit, and steward their support.
- Conduct prospect discovery work through data analysis, qualification, and research for both personal and aligned gift officer portfolios.
- Establish ongoing relationships with prospects through visits, calls, and cultivation activities to maximize their support.
- Prepare faculty agendas, prospect lists, and attend faculty meetings as needed.
- Collaborate with faculty and gift officers on solicitation strategies and write proposals for prospective donors.
- Renew giving, design and manage appeals, increase giving levels, and recapture lapsed donors.
- Support aligned gift officers at donor meetings and prepare research, collateral, and proposals.
- Meet with prospects and donors to discuss faculty research and philanthropic interests.
- Reporting and Data Analytics (25%)
- Use reporting and MCD databases for data analysis and to identify major gift prospects.
- Manage grateful patient data; pull lists and analyze to identify major-rated prospects.
- Act as the primary liaison between partner teams to coordinate projects and deliverables.
- Events and Leadership Support (25%)
- Coordinate Major Gift Leadership Team meetings and monthly Development Specialist Gift Officer meetings.
- Lead development and implementation of event strategy, proposing recommendations based on donor goals.
- Serve as the data partner for events: create invitation lists, obtain approvals, track responses, and conduct ROI analysis.
- Draft briefing materials for leadership, faculty, and prospects for events.
- Collateral Development (20%)
- Support the team in preparing briefing materials, letters, faculty spotlights, gift opportunities, and other communications.
- Coordinate with Medical Center Development teams to ensure projects align with strategy and guidelines.
- Attend meetings with the Development Coordinator to capture notes and support follow-up.
- Bachelor’s degree and three years of relevant experience, or equivalent education and experience.
- Experience managing complex projects with competing deadlines and minimal supervision.
- Excellent technical skills:
Excel, Word, web resources, and donor management databases; experience with Salesforce and Oracle is a plus. - Positive, can‑do attitude and dedicated work ethic.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication, research, and editorial skills.
- Superior organizational skills, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to follow through on projects.
- Strong customer‑service focus and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated sound judgment with independent decision making and confidentiality.
- Understanding of development and alumni enterprise in an academic setting is desirable.
$113,212 to $132,028 per annum. Pay will be determined based on qualifications, responsibilities, budget, and market data.
