Job SummaryLicensed Clinical Social Worker is the second and fully-qualified, full-proficiency level of professional social work for employees who are licensed by the State of California as Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSW). This level involves substantial professional responsibility and independence in providing social work services.
Social Work Clinician is the entry, developmental, and first working level for employees who are recent graduates or who are not yet licensed as LCSWs by the State of California.
The Social Work Job Family consists of three levels of professional non-management social work in a health care institutional setting:
Social Work Clinician, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, and Advanced Clinical Social Worker. A Master s degree in Social Work (MSW) is required. Social workers provide psychosocial interventions to patients and families, assess social needs related to health status, and collaborate on treatment plans. They advocate within the organization and community, provide counseling, referrals, and practical assistance, and may train health care staff on biopsychosocial, cultural, and economic issues.
They support core values and ethics within Stanford Medicine and the broader community.

Licensed Clinical Social Worker:
- Makes mental health diagnoses as part of a treatment plan as needed.
- Provides individual/group clinical supervision to MSWs and student interns.
- Prepares and maintains electronic medical records; provides written and oral reports and handoffs.
- Conducts psychosocial assessments and identifies barriers to care; develops treatment plans with interdisciplinary teams.
- Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to implement psychosocial treatment plans and coordinate referrals.
- Helps patients/families cope with illness-related environmental and psychological issues.
- Manages independently assigned caseloads of varying acuity.
- Engages in case finding, attends team conferences, and participates in rounds as needed.
- Provides supportive counseling, crisis intervention, and other therapeutic services.
- Provides psychoeducation for adaptation to diagnosis, illness, treatment, or prognosis; assists in transition from youth to adult services.
- Participates in quality assurance and community improvement related to social work services.
Social Work Clinician:

Licensed Clinical Social Worker:

Master s degree in Social Work from an accredited program. - Experience:
Two (2) years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience. - License/Certification:
Valid California LCSW license issued by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences.
Social Work Clinician:
- Education:
Master s degree in Social Work (MSW) from an accredited program. - Experience:
Successful completion of Master s program prior to state date.
Preferred skills: Pediatric social work experience; healthcare experience
