The Domiciliary Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program (DRRTP) is located at the VA Palo Alto Healthcare System (VAPAHCS) – Menlo Park Division, which is in the heart of Silicon Valley and the beautiful Bay Area Peninsula. We are seeking a compassionate, skilled Staff Psychologist to join our residential interdisciplinary team. This role focuses on providing mental health services to Veterans with complex clinical needs including serious mental illness, substance use, and co-occurring medical and psychosocial challenges.
- Expected Salary range from $161,729 to $228,000 (negotiable based on candidate's qualifications, credentials and experience).
- Work Schedule:
Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm - Education Debt Reduction Program (Student Loan Repayment):
Authorized. - Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year)
- Retirement:
Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA - Insurance:
Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement)
Setting: This position is based in a 24/7 residential mental health treatment program, serving Veterans with mental health symptoms and psychosocial stressors that have contributed to unstable housing/homelessness. The role involves regular interaction within a dynamic milieu and collaboration with a multidisciplinary team. For this position alternative work schedules may be available to support program needs.
Overview of the Position: Staff Psychologists play a key role in supporting Veterans’ recovery by helping individuals build the skills needed for long-term housing and wellness.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing psychological assessment for diagnostic clarification and treatment planning
- Delivering individual and group psychotherapy using evidence-based, and recovery-oriented approaches.
- Conducting risk assessments and crisis intervention as needed.
- Collaborate with psychiatrists, medical providers, social workers, peer support, addiction therapists, and housing specialists as part of an integrated care team.
- Contribute to behavioral support plans and milieu interventions within the residential setting.
- Support care coordination, discharge planning, and continuity of care with outpatient providers and community resources.
In addition to these primary responsibilities, VAPAHCS provides a rich professional environment that supports participation in the Psychology Training Program (e.g., supervising psychology trainees), continuing education/training, involvement in healthcare level committees, and program development/process improvement.
