The Division of Radiation Physics in the Department of Radiation Oncology at Stanford University seeks motivated medical physicists to join the Division as Clinical Assistant/Associate Professors in the Clinician Educator line. We are interested in candidates who are A board certified, have a PhD or equivalent, and a record of research in clinical medical physics. The successful candidates will join a dynamic and supportive team, providing comprehensive clinical physics services the Palo Alto main campus, we are currently seeking support for external beam and brachytherapy services and have one position available.
Faculty typically cover one or two clinical service lines—most commonly external beam, brachytherapy, or both—with flexibility to rotate or cross-cover as program needs evolve. Additionally, to support our expanding clinical footprint, we are seeking a Lead Physicist to oversee physics services at our new regional center in Oakland, working alongside two physicists and two dosimetrists, with plans for team expansion.
The Lead Physicist position requires a minimum three years of experience; five years is preferred. Managerial or supervisory experience in clinical setting is preferred. This new cancer center will offer both external beam and brachytherapy using two Varian True Beams, one Varian Edge linacs equipped with surface guidance system and a Varian Bravos system for HDR brachytherapy. The center will have a CT simulator, a PET/CT, a SPECT/CT and an MRI shared with radiology and will have an open linac vault for future development.
The department operates a wide range of state-of-the-art equipment, including two Accuray Cyber Knife systems, one Refle Xion X1, one View Ray MRIdian, one Mevion S250
Fit proton therapy platform, and three Varian True Beams at Palo Alto campus. Additionally, the department has two PET/CT simulators and a 3T MRI simulator. Treatment planning systems include the Accuray Precision, Ray Search Ray Station and Varian Eclipse systems, integrated with the ARIA patient information system. The brachytherapy service (HDR and LDR) is supported by Bravos systems with Brachy Vision and Vitesse real-time planning.
The department also utilizes a Mobetron Intra Op electron accelerator. Stanford Medicine operates four satellite clinics in the Bay Area, with a total of seven Varian True Beams and one Edge.
- Provide comprehensive clinical physics services at Stanford, covering external beam and brachytherapy as assigned.
- Serve as Clinician Educator with primary focus on clinical care (approximately 90%), contributing to teaching and scholarship as programmatic needs allow.
- Collaborate across satellite sites and clinical groups to meet coverage requirements due to vacation, conferences, or paid development leaves.
- Participate in translational research initiatives and engage with departmental research programs in Radiation Biology, Radiation Physics, and Imaging.
- A board certified in medical physics or equivalent.
- PhD or equivalent degree.
- Demonstrated record of research in clinical medical physics.
- Lead Physicist (Oakland regional center) requires a minimum of three years of experience; five years preferred; managerial/supervisory experience preferred.
