This is an on-call as-needed position. The candidate must be credentialed as an EMT in California. Ideal candidates have at least 6 months of related behavioral health experience and customer service background. This position is 100% field-based.
Pay rates for Union positions are set by the Collective Bargaining Agreement with SEIU Local 521. The position has six steps, from Step 1 (entry level) to Step 6 (15+ years). Promotion from Step 1 to Step 2 occurs after one year. Current rates are $31.60/hr at Step 1 and $34.88/hr at Step 6.
Additional pay includes shift differentials:
- 6% extra for overnight shifts (11 pm - 7 am)
- 4.5% extra for evening shifts (5:30 pm - 10:59 pm)
- 4.5% extra for weekend shifts (Saturday 12:01 am - Sunday 11:59 pm)
Under supervision, the role involves driving the mobile van, providing patient assessments, basic first aid, community outreach, and working with a multidisciplinary team.
Responsibilities include:
- Driving and route planning
- Providing primary and secondary assessments and first aid as needed
- Maintaining vehicle safety and cleanliness
- Recording trip and maintenance data
- Engaging with community and providing education and linkage to supports
Requirements include:
- High school diploma or GED
- California EMT certification
- First aid, AED, CPR certifications
- Valid CA driver’s license and ambulance driver’s license
- 6 months of behavioral health and customer service experience (volunteer considered)
- Knowledge of safe driving, emergency response, and cultural competence
- Physical ability to perform job duties
This is an entry-level, part-time position in the mental health care industry. The job is active, community-focused, and involves driving, assessments, and outreach.
