Financial Analyst and Research Administrator
Position: 80% FTE, fixed‑term (January 2026 – December 2026), benefits eligible, within the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences (CASBS) at Stanford University.
Work schedule:
Four‑day work week, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. (possible occasional extended hours for event support). Hybrid schedule may be considered after trial period.
- Perform and design ad‑hoc analyses of large complex data sets, reconcile complex accounts, identify and resolve complex issues.
- Construct and assemble data for budgeting and decision making; develop conclusions and present high‑level summary of recommendations, and may develop annual budget for individual department/unit.
- Conduct analysis and resolution, recognize exceptions, participate in developing solutions that may require policy changes or development of new processes.
- Execute internal control programs established by management, research new regulations, recommend and implement approved changes, manage compliance program for area of responsibility, create complex compliance reports.
- Develop reports and presentations of complex financial data and metrics for management and third parties.
- Participate as member of a project team; support new initiatives, make decisions determining approach to managing and completing processes.
- Contribute to unit and organization strategy; assist in development of change‑management plans and materials.
- Develop and maintain desktop procedures and process documentation for area of responsibility.
- Define requirements, develop and implement complex test cases, perform system testing and analyze results.
- Participate in critical analysis of existing systems and processes, identify opportunities for process improvement.
- Provide consulting advice to client group(s), serve as a resource on matters requiring technical, financial, or subject‑matter expertise, support negotiations with external partners.
- Serve as liaison and active partner between principal investigators, Office of Sponsored Research, research groups, and other departments; respond to sponsor inquiries.
- Collaborate with Office of Sponsored Research to ensure awards are correctly set up, allowable expenses properly allocated and cost‑sharing requirements fulfilled, initiate cost transfers in a timely manner with adequate justifications.
- May supervise, train, coach, and review the work of other staff, as needed.
- Bachelor’s degree and four years of relevant experience (or combination of education and experience).
- Advanced proficiency in business applications, especially Microsoft Office suite and Excel.
- Demonstrated knowledge of financial systems, internet and computer literacy.
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Strong communication skills, including ability to prepare materials and communicate clearly with internal and external audiences.
- Demonstrated project management skills and ability to contribute to or lead part of a multi‑functional team.
- Previous Stanford University experience preferred.
- Constantly sitting.
- Frequently perform desk‑based computer tasks, use telephone, write by hand, sort/file paperwork.
- Occasionally stand/walk, lift/carry objects weighing 11–20 pounds.
- Rarely reach/work above shoulder height.

The expected pay range for this position is $93,596 to $100,000 per annum.
