The State Income Tax Manager will provide tax consulting, planning, and compliance services to a diverse range of clients, with responsibilities across state-level tax projects.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee state-level tax projects, including compliance and related research.
  • Lead and direct a team in managing state tax compliance and advisory services for clients.
  • Monitor and analyze changes in state income tax laws and regulations and determine impact to the client.
  • Provide complex tax review, research, planning, and consulting services to diverse clients, including federal and state tax regulations.
  • Lead or assist with tax planning, research, and special projects.
  • Prepare and review quarterly and annual state income tax provisions.
  • Model state income tax benefits and consequences using Microsoft Excel, Power BI or Alteryx.
  • Write tax technical memos articulating issues, conclusions, and analysis.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or related discipline; approximately six years of related work experience.
  • High level of proficiency in state income tax code, regulations, and procedures.
  • Proven record of excellence in a professional services or tax organization.
  • Technical writing and research experience in a tax context.
  • Ability to analyze client data, provide guidance, and make recommendations to engagement teams.
  • Ability to prioritize when working on multiple complex projects.
  • Strong influencing skills and the confidence to question existing processes.
  • Willingness to travel as needed and comfortable with a balanced hybrid environment.
Ideally, you’ll also have
  • CPA qualification attained or in progress, or membership in the Institute for Professionals in Taxation, or eligibility to sit for or be a member of a state bar.
