What to Expect
The Failure Analysis team determines root cause and contributing factors to improve Tesla products in collaboration with engineering teams. Technicians on the team support analysis of vehicle and energy systems including the existing fleet and new products under development. This is a high-visibility support role that requires hands-on assistance in materials analysis of electromechanical components. You will work closely with engineers on systems such as batteries, power electronics, infotainment, and low voltage devices.
You will gain experience in materials engineering methods to contribute to reliability and innovation in Tesla vehicles and energy solutions.
- Support materials engineers on analyzing failures in electromechanical components
- Assist with sample preparation techniques including cross-sectioning, polishing, and mounting for metallographic examination
- Perform basic materials testing using tools such as optical microscopy, hardness testers, and profilometers
- Help with analytical methods like Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), TGA, FTIR, or Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectroscopy (GC/MS) to characterize material properties
- Maintain lab equipment and workflows for non-destructive and destructive evaluations
- Collaborate with teams to document findings and support root cause investigations
- Learn and apply entry-level materials analysis methods in a dynamic environment
- Bachelor s degree in Materials Engineering, Materials Science, or related field, or equivalent experience
- 0-2 years in lab or technical support roles
- Basic familiarity with materials characterization tools such as microscopes, hardness testers, or spectroscopy equipment
- Eagerness to learn new techniques quickly and contribute in fast-paced settings
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Ability to handle basic mechanical tasks and follow safety protocols
- Ability to lift up to 30 pounds and handle chemicals safely

$24.40 - $56.40/hour + cash and stock awards + benefits

The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
