Engineering Program Manager, Solar Products
Tesla’s Energy Engineering group is looking for a highly motivated individual to program manage existing and new design engineering for Residential Energy Products, including Solar Panels and related products.
This cross‑functional role requires coordination between design engineering, manufacturing engineering, operations, supply chain, compliance, reliability, and field operations to define and drive development of new product programs while managing change on existing ones.
As part of the design engineering team, you will shepherd projects from concept through prototype validation and production ramp, using your engineering background to understand product and manufacturing requirements, technical risks, and validation strategy. You will communicate project status, highlight schedule risks, and develop recovery plans.
Key Responsibilities- Collaborate with design engineering, manufacturing engineering, operations, facilities and construction, reliability, test, supply chain, and other supporting functions to identify and scope projects for residential energy product assembly design and manufacturing.
- Manage product cost reductions and quality improvements.
- Create, maintain, communicate, and present schedules for design and manufacturing engineering projects to the engineering leadership team.
- Prioritize engineering team work based on risk, resources, and payback.
- Identify creative ways to overcome obstacles and meet schedules despite setbacks.
- Define processes that improve risk and change management.
- Demonstrated experience managing engineering projects for mass‑produced products.
- Experience with engineering product design cycle, manufacturing line bring‑up, and ramp to mass production.
- Experience creating, maintaining, and communicating schedules.
- Understanding of multi‑level Bill of Materials hierarchy, including hardware and software components.
- Understanding of product release cycle related to parts and BOM change management.
- Ability to inspire confidence across multiple management layers, from executive to associate.
- Detail‑oriented with strong record‑keeping and organizational skills.
- Ability to work cross‑functionally with engineering, production, and supply chain personnel.
- Degree in an engineering discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, Manufacturing, or closely related) or equivalent experience.
Based in the Bay Area (Palo Alto) with some travel to Tesla manufacturing facilities in California or Nevada as program needs dictate.
Compensation and BenefitsCompetitive salary range: $100,000 - $258,000 per year, plus cash and stock awards and benefits. Eligible for the following benefits at day 1 of hire:
