The Optimus team designs and builds humanoid bi-pedal robots to automate repetitive tasks, as well as wheeled robots for manufacturing and autonomous logistics. The team collaborates across mechanical, electrical, controls, software, and manufacturing engineering disciplines. You will work on improving robot behavior in real-world scenarios and reflecting those improvements in simulation engines for rapid iteration. The code you develop will be deployed in thousands of humanoid robots, requiring high quality standards.

• Design architecture and controls for per-joint systems in the Tesla Bot
• Develop robot modeling architecture
• Design concepts for biped robots
• Model kinematic chains accurately
• Convert joint mechanisms into rigid body trees
• Represent physics of joints and limbs
• Support the design of new mechanisms
• Measure and match models with real-world simulations
• Simplify complex controls for fast analysis

• Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field, or equivalent experience with proven ability
• 3+ years of experience in controls system development, modeling, and implementation
• Strong background in linear systems analysis, stability, and controller design
• Experience creating dynamic models of electrical, mechanical, and thermal systems
• Understanding of electric propulsion, motion control, and heat transfer physics
• Knowledge of control systems such as inverted pendulum, model predictive control, motor controls, etc.
• Skills in inverse kinematics, inverse/forward dynamics, impedance, and torque control
• Basic knowledge of electric motors, power electronics, and control circuits
• Familiarity with gear reduction mechanisms including planetary, belt drives, and magnetic gears
• Proficiency in Python, C++, MATLAB/Simulink

Expected compensation ranges from $84,000 to $234,000 annually, plus bonuses and benefits. Compensation varies based on experience, location, and other factors.
