What to Expect

The Tesla Robotics Team designs and builds humanoid bi‑pedal robots (Optimus) to perform tasks that are boring, repetitive, and dangerous for humans. The team joins mechanical, electrical, controls, software, and manufacturing engineering disciplines in a highly collaborative team. We are seeking talented Mechanical Design Engineers to play a role in building this ambitious vision into reality. There will be an emphasis on creative problem‑solving abilities and technical rigor for this role.

• Lead mechanical system integration across the full robot, performing compatibility checks throughout the development process and tracking impacts from design changes
• Support requirement definition including functionality, manufacturing, and cosmetics; continuously evaluating impacts of design changes
• Support and execute virtual builds, development bucks, physical prototypes, and pre‑series production validation
• Manage top‑level product BOM and kinematic models, ensuring CAD completeness and compatibility
• Create and maintain URDF models to translate CAD into accurate virtual representation for simulation and software control; verify accuracy against real hardware
• Perform 3D dimensional analysis to predict and control the effects of manufacturing variation on precision and kinematics of the bot
• Lead the mechanical design for motion tracking hardware

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field, or equivalent experience
• Must have experience in full product lifecycle from concept through production; experience with product lifecycle management tools is an advantage
• Knowledgeable in varied part manufacturing processes such as stampings, large castings/moldings, precision machining, electronics
• Proven execution, problem solving, and strong communication skills
• Proficiency in designing parts and assemblies using 3D modeling software (CATIA/3DX software preferred)
• Experience drafting engineering drawings and conducting GD&T stack‑up analysis (3
  
  DCS software preferred)

$92,720 - $256,200/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits

Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
