What to Expect
The Failure Analysis Team’s mission is to determine root cause and contributing factors to improve Tesla’s products in collaboration with a large cross‑section of other engineering teams. Engineers and Technicians on the team are responsible for a wide variety of Vehicle and Energy systems including the existing fleet and new products under development. This is a high‑visibility, individual contributor role that requires extensive hands‑on failure analysis of electronic systems and components.
WhatYou’ll Do
- Support failure analysis engineers on diagnosing fault and root‑causing electrical components.
- Apply analytical tools and techniques to perform initial fault isolation nondestructively: optical microscope, 2D X‑ray and scanning acoustic microscopy.
- Perform basic electrical tests using power supply, digital multimeter and curve tracer.
- Assist in sample preparation using techniques such as cross‑sectioning and chemical etching.
- Working knowledge of semiconductor components and electrical systems.
- Hands‑on experience with semiconductor sample preparation such as mechanical cross‑sectioning, die delayering, chemical etching, etc.
- Reasonable mechanical skills and a keen analytical mindset.
- Familiarity with basic electrical measurements using digital multimeter and power supply.
- Proficiency in soldering.
- Machine shop or CNC machining experience (a strong plus).
- Proven capacity to rapidly acquire new knowledge and make impactful contributions in a rapidly changing environment.
