Position Overview Gideon Hausner Jewish Day School seeks a part-time Engineering Instructor for the 2026–2027 school year. This is an hourly, non-exempt role, and is ideal for an experienced educator, engineer, or STEM professional who enjoys working with middle-grade students in a hands-on, project-based environment.
Responsibilities- Part-time, hourly, non-exempt role
- Start Date:
August 2026, through the end of the school year - Teaches Engineering courses to Upper School students (grades 5–8)
- Focus on design thinking, problem-solving, prototyping, and iteration
- Curriculum is project-based and developmentally responsive
- Hours vary based on course load, approximately 10-20 hours per week
- Background in engineering, STEM education, or a related field
- Experience working with middle-grade students preferred
- Strong communication and classroom facilitation skills
- Comfort with iterative, inquiry-based teaching
- Collaborative mindset and ability to work with other teachers
- Plan and teach engaging, hands-on engineering lessons
- Facilitate student projects that emphasize creativity, collaboration, and real-world problem solving
- Assess student learning and provide meaningful feedback
- Collaborate with STEM faculty and school leadership as needed
- Maintain classroom materials, equipment, and a safe learning environment
- Background in engineering, STEM education, or a related field
- Experience working with middle-grade students preferred
- Strong communication and classroom facilitation skills
- Comfort with iterative, inquiry-based teaching
- Experience with project-based or hands-on learning preferred
- Hourly Rate:
Approximately $40-50 per hour, commensurate with experience. - This is a part-time, non-exempt position and is eligible for overtime in accordance with California law
- Competitive compensation is commensurate with experience and structured as an hourly/ contractor agreement
