Comparative Politics, Open Rank Faculty Position in Political Science
Position DescriptionThe Department of Political Science at Stanford University is seeking applications for an open rank, tenure line position in Comparative Politics. Applicants must have demonstrated the ability to maintain a world-class research program and a commitment to effective teaching and mentoring. The term of appointment is expected to begin on September 1, 2026.

Responsibilities- Develop and maintain an active, world-class research program in Comparative Politics.
- Provide high-quality teaching and mentoring at both graduate and undergraduate levels.
- Contribute to the department through service and advising as appropriate to rank and experience.
Assistant Professor (untenured): must have a PhD or be enrolled in a PhD program or equivalent international degree-granting program at the time of application, with expected degree completion by date of appointment. Applicants should demonstrate evidence of a creative research trajectory and excellence in teaching. Materials required with application include a cover letter, CV (including a publication list), a research and teaching statement (no more than three single-spaced pages), teaching evaluations, Ph.D. program transcripts, a writing sample, and three professional letters of recommendation.
Associate Professor or Professor (tenured): must have a conferred PhD or equivalent international degree. Applicants should demonstrate substantial evidence of a creative research career, impact in their field, and a commitment to excellence in teaching and advising at both graduate and undergraduate levels. Tenured applicants should submit a cover letter, CV (including publication list), teaching and research statement (no more than three single-spaced pages), and teaching evaluations.
All candidates will be asked to provide the names of three references. Assistant professor applicants will have references automatically contacted upon submission of the application.

Salary and ConditionsThe salary range for the 2025–26 academic year is as follows:
- Assistant Professor: $139,050 – $149,350
- Associate Professor: $180,250 – $226,600
- Professor: $257,500 – $360,500
Stanford provides a pay range as a good faith estimate. Final offer determined by qualifications, budget, and internal equity.
