- Teach at the graduate and undergraduate level.
- Develop advanced graduate courses in the candidate’s research specialty.
- Develop a world-class research program.
- Contribute significant leadership to related academic programs at Stanford.
- Engage in multidisciplinary collaboration across departments and schools, including the Schools of Engineering, Medicine, the Doerr School of Sustainability, and Humanities and Sciences.
- Must have completed, or be completing, a Ph.D. in the advertised field or a closely related one.
- Demonstrated potential for significant scholarship in materials science and engineering.
- Interest areas encouraged include computational materials science, biomaterials science, and/or mechanical properties (broadly defined).
Stanford University has resources for materials synthesis, fabrication, computation, and characterization, including nano@Stanford facilities, the Stanford Research Computing Facility (SRCF), and facilities at ChEM-H. There are significant partnering opportunities with SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory.
Application materialsApplications should include a resume, brief statements of research and teaching interests (3–5 pages total for both combined), and the names and e-mail addresses of 3–5 references. Letters of recommendation will be requested after short-listing. Within the research statement (not to exceed 4 pages), describe plans for future research and how those plans might be realized hin the teaching statement (not to exceed 1 page), describe your vision of teaching within the Department and related fields.

Compensation and benefitsThe Expected Base Pay Range For This Position (nine-month appointment):
- Assistant Professor: $141,247 – $159,910
- Associate Professor (untenured): $152,547 – $191,506
This base pay range is for a nine-month academic appointment and does not include summer salary. For more information about compensation and benefits, including housing assistance, contact the hiring department. Stanford provides a pay range representing its good faith estimate; actual pay is determined by factors including experience, qualifications, and internal/external equity.
