The Stanford Cancer Institute (SCI) at the Stanford University School of Medicine seeks a board-certified medical oncologist to join the Department of Medicine and the Division of Oncology as Assistant Professor in the University Medical Line. We are particularly interested in candidates with a focus on early-phase clinical trials.

Responsibilities
  • The major criteria for appointment for faculty in the University Medical Line shall be excellence in the overall mix of clinical care, clinical teaching, scholarly activity that advances clinical medicine, and institutional service appropriate to the programmatic need the individual is expected to fulfill.
  • Appointees as Assistant Professors will have completed their house staff training and, where appropriate, postdoctoral fellowship training. They must demonstrate excellence or promise of excellence in the overall mix of contributions in clinical care, teaching and scholarly activity that advances clinical medicine appropriate to the programmatic need upon which the appointment will be based. They should have evidence of promise to attain regional recognition for excellence in these areas.

    If there has been no formal teaching experience, they should have demonstrated during training a commitment to teaching and the potential to meet or exceed acceptable teaching standards.
  • Lead or contribute to the SCI Early Drug Development (EDD) Program focused on Phase I clinical trials in oncology, including studies where first-in-human novel cancer therapeutics are developed and include biomarkers in their design. These studies may collect toxicity and efficacy data to improve oncology care.
  • Develop a clinical/translational research program, teach graduate students, postdoctoral fellows and clinical fellows, and participate in Oncology clinics. Collaborate with basic science departments and Stanford Institutes in a supportive scientific and clinical environment.
  • Possess an MD or MD/PhD and be board-certified in medical oncology. The position is open to candidates with experience in developing and conducting early-phase innovative clinical/translational trials with targeted agents and immunotherapeutics.
  • Participate in relevant clinical and basic science conferences. Engage with investigators across a broad spectrum, with interest in a particular disease area and/or therapeutic pathway, or experience with genomics and other biomarkers.
Qualifications
  • Fellowship-trained specialist in medical oncology with a focus on early-phase clinical trials.
  • Demonstrated track record or significant potential in obtaining research funding and in publishing in leading scientific or medical journals.
  • Experience developing and conducting early-phase trials with targeted agents and immunotherapeutics is preferred.
  • Eligible candidates must have an MD or MD/PhD and board certification in medical oncology.
About the Stanford Cancer Institute

The SCI leads an Early Drug Development (EDD) Program focused on Phase I oncology trials with biomarker integration, contributing to the oncology drug development ecosystem where toxicity and efficacy data are gathered to improve care.

Compensation

and Application

The expected base pay range for this position is $282,000 - $296,000. The pay range reflects base pay and depends on rank and years in rank; it does not include all components of the School of Medicine’s faculty compensation program or pay from participation in incentive programs.
