Overview
Instrumental technology is used by the world’s most admired electronics brands such as Bose, Cisco, and Solar Edge to reduce waste in manufacturing. Instrumental is looking to hire a “Journalist in Residence” to scale our Build Better efforts – to create and pitch ideas, trend‑jack timely topics, develop sources, and produce high‑quality journalistic content in written and other formats. You’ll work closely with our marketing team, internal subject matter experts, and C‑Suite to drive organic audience growth and make Build Better the 100 lb gorilla in the electronics manufacturing knowledge‑sphere.
Responsibilities- Pitch the “right” ideas and be agile. Stay on pulse of the electronics manufacturing zeitgeist and devise compelling content ideas.
- Make a plan and be agile. Lay out a compelling content plan, execute, and pivot quickly when new developments arise.
- Develop sources and tap them for stories, interviews, and information. Build a network of sources to create content.
- Write compelling, knowledge‑first stories and articles for print, web, and other media. Maintain a high‑quality, direct prose that caters to technical audiences.
- Fluency in the electronics manufacturing industry with focus on high‑volume electronics, networking and data centers, and defense.
- Ability to write high‑quality, direct prose that is credible to VPs, mechanical engineers, and process engineers.
- Proven ability to build or use a network to find sources.
- Skill in identifying story ideas that resonate in current zeitgeist.
- Bonus:
Engineer by training, prior journalism experience covering electronics supply chain, or founder in the hardware space.
Representative annual base salary range for the mid‑level in the Bay Area: $120,000 – 145,000
. Salary is evaluated through the interview process. Instrumental also offers health, vision, dental, commuter plans, and parental leave.
