Summary:
Plans, conducts, and evaluates medically directed speech pathology programs for assigned patients designed to restore or develop patients' communication skills and/or swallowing/feeding skills. Assesses patients with functional and organic speech disorders or with receptive/expressive language disorders, develops treatment programs and modifies treatment in accordance with patient progress. Instructs patients and families in rehabilitative speech/language practices, monitors patients' progress and maintains clinical records.
Incumbent is expected to function independently and may perform other similar and related duties as assigned. Observes all health and safety requirements.

Assesses patients with functional and organic speech disorders or with receptive/expressive language disorders, develops treatment programs and modifies treatment in accordance with patient progress. Instructs patients and families in rehabilitative speech/language practices, monitors patients' progress and maintains clinical records.

Observes all health and safety requirements. - Evaluates the appropriateness of diagnostic and therapeutic materials and equipment. Contributes to purchasing decisions. Responsible for the condition of materials, equipment and tests used.
- Initiates and follows up on necessary action in relation to clients; determines appropriate plans for clients and recommendations for continued care. Counsels clients, families and others in relation to understanding and assisting in the identification and treatment of hearing impairment.
- Completes department operational procedures, including scheduling, billing, equipment usage, time-off requests and caseload coverage assignments.
- Meets productivity expectations as determined by department standards.
- Maintains a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations; protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols.
- Uses professional ethics with patients and families to establish therapeutic relationships. Assumes responsibility for a defined caseload of patients/families; makes clinical decisions on complex patients based on theory and experience; mentors colleagues in developing these skills.
- Performs assessments and collects data to identify patient/family needs; interprets data under supervision and seeks multidisciplinary collaboration as needed.
- Adheres to standards of practice and procedures to support clinical decision making; plans for changes with complex patients and mentors colleagues in developing skills.
- Establishes plan of care with patient/family input and coordinates multidisciplinary discharge planning for the patient population.
- Documents and ensures follow-through with the plan of care and coordinates with internal resources as needed.
- Demonstrates effective communication, feedback and conflict resolution skills to enhance team functioning; participates in team meetings regarding patient/family care and practice issues.
- Graduate from an accredited SLP program
- Massachusetts SLP licensure
- ASHA Certified
- New grads welcome (1 year of experience preferred)
- CPR certification from the American Heart Association BLS Provider
- Experience with Dysphagia and Modified Barium Swallows; opportunity to be trained as well
- Experience with Dysphagia and Modified Barium Swallows a plus
- Education:
Bachelors Degree (Required) - Certifications:
Basic Life Support – American Heart Association;
American Speech-Language-Hearing Association certifications
- 0-2 years experience as ST
- None Listed
- Clinical decision-making and critical thinking to deliver patient care across the continuum
- Clinical decision-making processes to achieve patient/family outcomes
- Entry level ST skills and related competencies (Physiological Knowledge, Safety, Quality, Communication, etc.)
