Summary: The role of the cardiac sonographer is to perform echocardiograms, evaluating chamber size, valve function and blood flow. The incumbent must recognize basic cardiac conditions and identify abnormalities. The individual works with physicians and may assist in other diagnostic procedures (TEE, Stress Echocardiograms). Other duties include research, 3D imaging, scheduling appointments, explaining procedures to patients and maintaining ultrasound equipment.
Incumbent is expected to adhere to system and department compliance policies, and any applicable laws and regulations. The description covers essential functions of the position. Incumbent may perform related duties as assigned. Management may change or add responsibilities at any time.
Job Responsibilities:- Clinical Practice – Performs diagnostic quality exams according to department protocol and procedure. Understands heart, vascular and thoracic anatomy, pathophysiology, and hemodynamics.
- Equipment Knowledge – Demonstrates knowledge of equipment and optimizes equipment to enhance image quality. Understands ultrasound physics, instrumentation, tissue characteristics, and blood flow measurements.
- Patient Charge Capture – Completes patient charge capture in PACS system accurately and timely. Maintains safe operation of designated equipment and keeps the department orderly.
- Initiative – Illustrates initiative, reliability and flexibility while performing duties.
- Quality Feedback – Actively seeks and receives honest feedback from the healthcare team to improve quality and performance.
- Professional Development – Takes initiative in seeking educational resources for professional improvement.
- Emergency Procedures – Is knowledgeable of and assists with emergency procedures.
- Team Objectives – Supports individual and/or team objectives from previous review cycle.
Work Experience:
- Graduate of an ultrasonography accredited program (0‑3 years required).
Work Experience:
- 3‑5 years.
Competencies:
- CIS, McKesson, BP access, CIDEX use, and online web‑based training.
