Responsibilities

Provides Age Appropriate Care To Patients. Demonstrates knowledge of developmental stages for the following age groups: child through older adult (Children, Adolescents, Adult, Geriatric).

Develops and maintains good human relations skills. Introduces self by name to the patient, PCT, and RN, and consistently displays a respectful, empathetic, and caring attitude toward patients and families. Interacts professionally with health care team members and accepts changes in assignments to accommodate patient needs.

Provides safety observation of the patient and intervenes as necessary. Documents patient status every 15 minutes and communicates information promptly to the RN. Provides direct patient care including bathing, feeding, toileting, ambulating, turning, and repositioning. Assists with activities of daily living and follows RN guidance regarding patient limitations and privileges. De-escalates and maintains a therapeutic environment; reports significant patient observations to the RN.

Receives report from the RN and off-going BRT and reports off to the RN and on-coming BRT as required. Provides immediate care to maintain patient safety.

Maintains a safe environment: permanece with one-to-one observation as assigned, remains awake and alert, and identifies ligature and safety risks. Transports patients as directed and reports safety hazards to the RN.

Understands care for specific diagnoses such as suicidal, eating disorders, withdrawal, PICA, Alzheimer’s, and related conditions.

Communicates clearly with patients, maintains confidentiality, and uses appropriate body language to show interest and care.

Participates in competency validations, educational activities, staff meetings, mandatory in-services, and other required programs. Strives to continually improve skills and knowledge.

Demonstrates competency for one-to-one observation of patients based on the care of the suicidal patient policy; staff must remain awake and alert during observation.

Qualifications

Required Experience: 1 year of relevant patient care experience. This may include experience with behavioral health patients, direct patient care in group homes, paraprofessional roles, or a BRT Apprentice Role for 1 year.

Preferred Experience: 2 years of experience working with behavioral health patients.

GED or HiSET (Required)

Certifications

Approved Workplace Safety and De-escalation Training – Baystate Health;
Basic Life Support – American Heart Association
