Job Summary
This position performs technical duties in the maintenance of Borough trails.
Work is performed and duties are carried out in accordance with established policies, procedures, and Borough core values:

The anticipated schedule is Monday - Thursday - 7:00am - 5:30pm with a 30 minute lunch.
Pay Grade: G1 - DOE
Minimum RequirementsHigh School diploma or equivalent.
Three (3) years of experience in the occupational field, sufficient to understand the major duties of the position. Relevant experience includes:
Professional trail work, landscaping, outdoor guide, equipment operator, and construction work. Supervisory experience preferred but not required.
Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Alaska for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
Please note:
Individuals may be assigned driving duties. If assigned driving duties/responsibilities, candidate must be at least 19 years of age with one (1) year of driving experience.
Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen, background check and physical.
Duties/Responsibilities- Trains staff in trail construction and maintenance operations; works with crew to assess abilities and identify training needs.
- Trains staff in power and hand tool use and maintenance.
- Monitors the work of assigned trail crew to ensure compliance with policies and procedures.
- Processes trailhead data and prepares spreadsheets of trail use from multiple trailhead locations.
- Maintains trails and Trailheads.
- Operates a variety of hand and power tools.
- Maintains landscaping; installs plants; trims shrubs and bushes.
- Ensures compliance with department safety policies and procedures.
- Maintains assigned vehicles and equipment.
- Performs related duties.
Temporary and Thousand Hour (1000) employees for the Mat-Su Borough do not receive a benefits package. Following is a brief description of the only benefit provided to this class of employee.
Alaska Supplemental Benefits System
The Supplemental Benefits System (SBS) is in lieu of Social Security and is mandatory. An employee contributes 6.13% of gross wages, matched by the Borough (6.13%), on the present wage base of $176,100.
