Road Maintenance Laborer - Temp

This position participates in the repair and maintenance of Borough roads and streets.

Work is performed and duties are carried out in accordance with established policies, procedures, and Borough core values:

This is a 6 month temporary (summer) assignment expected to work 40 hours a week. The anticipated schedule is Monday - Friday from 7:30am - 4:00pm with a 30 minute lunch.

E1 - DOE

High School diploma or equivalent.

One (1) year of experience in a similar position, sufficient to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position.
Preferred experience includes:
Being an experienced driver who is knowledgeable of the MSB road system. Additional skills and/or experience includes: the ability to take direction and familiarity with hand tools and related equipment.

Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Alaska for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
Please note:
If assigned driving duties/responsibilities, candidate must be at least 19 years of age with one (1) year of driving experience.

Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen, background check and physical.

• Assists with repairs and installs street signs.
• May operate a steam boiler to thaw frozen culverts and prevent glaciations and flooding; repairs and replaces culverts.
• Conducts road striping operations.
• Operates pumps to alleviate flooding conditions.
• Operates brushing equipment; removes trees and tree limbs from roadways.
• May operate street sweeping equipment.
• Operates snow removal and plowing equipment.
• Assists with repairs of asphalt and gravel surfaces.
• Installs traffic control devices and flags traffic at worksites.
• Transports tools, equipment and supplies to work sites.
• Performs preventative maintenance of vehicles and equipment.
• Performs related duties.
