Department of Natural Resources, Division of Forestry & Fire Protection is recruiting a Wildland Fire & Resource Technician 2/3 in Palmer, Alaska.
What You Will Be DoingDuties include fire suppression actions:
- Digging hand lines and using power saws and water pumps.
- Maintaining fire gear readiness and working on hazard fuel mitigation projects.
- Providing daily supervision for 10‑20 firefighters on a Type II IA Crew.
- Performing as an Incident Commander during the initial attack of low‑complexity wildland fires, leading firing and holding operations, and providing input on fire line placement and safety briefings.
- Instructing NWCG courses and developing training in basic wildland fire principles.

- Dispatched nationally and to Canada to respond to fires and all risk incidents.
- Working and living in remote environments with no internet or cell service.
- 14‑21 days hiking to work, performing manual labor tasks.

- Applicant must be at least 18 years of age.
- Positions may require travel both in and out‑of‑state; stand‑by or recall status during the fire season.
- Applicants must possess an Alaska driver’s license; proof required before reporting to duty.
- Positions may require a commercial driver’s license with appropriate endorsements.
