What You Will Be Doing
The Department of Natural Resources, Division of Forestry & Fire Protection (DOF) is hiring a Long Term, Non-Permanent Accounting Technician
2. This journey-level position is responsible for the accounting functions essential to the operation of the Aviation Section, ensuring office compliance with various state administrative and financial requirements of DOA Finance, DOA Personnel, DOA General Services, and DNR Finance. The position is responsible for technical accounting duties, including but not limited to financial monitoring, office travel, office supplies, services procurement, personnel and payroll verification documentation, and other administrative support functions.

The Division of Forestry & Fire Protection fosters a mission-driven culture responsible for protecting Alaska’s values, including life and property from wildland fire. The Division of Forestry & Fire Protection works closely with federal, state, and local emergency response agencies, as well as private industry vendors, to provide wildland fire management and protection for the State of Alaska. The Fire Protection Program's administrative section's position is integral to administratively supporting Forestry & Fire Protection's workforce.
The high-functioning administrative team you will join supports the “boots on the ground” that ensure the safety of people, property, and resources in Alaska and nationwide. This position's multifaceted functions offer diverse challenges and the opportunity to contribute to the success of the DOF mission.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, dependable, and detail-oriented individual to join our admin team.
Core Responsibilities
- Considerable experience and knowledge of accounting functions, including:
- financial monitoring
- accounts payable/receivable
- purchasing and inventory
- travel policies and procedures and
- personnel and payroll
- Researching and applying statutes, regulations, policies, and procedures
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with experience preparing documents such as manuals or handbooks, reviewing documents and agreements for content and style, preparing and presenting information to various size groups during training and meetings, and interpreting and explaining policy.
- Information system experience such as: state accounting - Integrated Resource Information System Financial (IRIS-FIN); financial - Alaska Data Enterprise Reporting (ALDER); payroll - Human Resources Management (IRIS-HRM), or similar systems elsewhere.

- Ability to write memoranda and correspondence related to the work.
- Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, standards, and practices related to accounts receivable, accounts payable, and reporting using computerized financial systems; specific experience with the State of Alaska systems, IRIS FIN/HRM, and ALDER is a bonus.
