APPLY QUICKLY! THIS RECRUITMENT WILL CLOSE ONCE THE MAXIMUM NUMBER OF APPLICATIONS HAS BEEN RECEIVED. The City of Palmdale is hiring multiple part-time/seasonal employees to assist with programming across the Parks and Recreation Department.

The City notes this is a part-time, unbenefited opportunity. Positions may work a variable number of hours per week during peak season and require flexibility, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Hours are limited and vary by programming schedules; further details will be discussed in the interview process.

Supervision received:
Receives general supervision from professional staff. Supervision exercised:
As directed by the Recreation Supervisor, Recreation Coordinator, and Senior Program leaders.

• Assist with the planning, coordinating, and facilitating recreation activities for children and adults at community events, sports leagues, and community centers.
• Implement games, contests, arts and crafts, and sports drills.
• Ensure set-up and safety of facilities for planned activities; prepare rooms or fields; set up and take down tables, chairs, and related equipment.
• Oversee facility use and patron conduct; enforce policies and ensure facility security at the end of the day.
• Assist with load in/load out and operation of the Palmdale Amphitheater and Community Events.
• Provide customer service to residents, address inquiries, and resolve issues as they arise.
• Performs basic first aid, responds to emergencies; reports incidents; maintain facility maintenance concerns and inventory by reporting needs.
• Attend meetings and trainings and share information regarding programs.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

Any combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge and abilities qualifies. A typical path includes some experience working with children or adults in a recreational environment and the ability to read and write at the level required for job performance.

• Must be at least 16 years of age by July 1 of the current year.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, stand for extended periods, bend, stoop, sit, and walk on uneven ground as required by programs.
• Ability to speak publicly and communicate clearly in writing.
• Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in extreme conditions.
• Ability to understand and carry out oral and written directions; learn the principles and objectives of recreational activities.
• Provide excellent customer service and deal effectively with diverse groups and individuals.
• Ability to apply safe work practices and work a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays and split shifts, depending on program needs.
• Assist with special events and other recreational activities as needed.
• Knowledge of supervising and coordinating activities for children and adults.
• Ability to learn the principles and objectives of recreational activities.

The Parks & Recreation Department offers multiple program areas. Select two program area preferences and indicate order of preference (Sample: #1 – Sports Program Leader and #2 Special Events Program Leader).

• Park Program Leader:
  Outdoor work, public engagement, leading group activities, promoting park programs, enforcing park rules and policies, at various parks.
• Special Events Program Leader:
  Organizes and coordinates events (e.g., Palmdale Amphitheater events) outdoors.
• Sports Program Leader:
  Officiating, scorekeeping, coaching, site monitoring, and field prep; outdoors at softball complexes and other facilities.
• Recreation Center Program Leader:
  Indoor/outdoor programming for various age groups, facility access, rentals, customer service, and facility cleanliness.
• Legacy Commons Program Leader:
  Programs for seniors (55+), rentals, daily services, customer service, facility cleanliness, indoors/outdoors.
