Description:
The City is seeking a Maintenance Worker I/II to perform inspection, maintenance, and repair work across facilities, parks, landscapes, structures, streets, fleet, and community preservation as assigned. The full salary range and expected hiring range are listed below.
Salary ranges (full):
Maintenance Worker I - $25.95 to $33.10;
Maintenance Worker II - $28.60 to $36.50. Expected hiring ranges:
Maintenance Worker I - $25.95 to $28.60;
Maintenance Worker II - $28.60 to $31.53.
Maintenance Worker I:
This entry level class performs routine and repetitive duties per established procedures and is closely supervised initially; with experience, work becomes more independent in routine tasks.
Maintenance Worker II:
Journey level, provided with general supervision; requires specific experience, less supervision, and is flexibly staffed with advancement from the lower level or prior related outside experience.
- Oversee and inspect the work of contract maintenance staff; inform and update staff or contractors as needed; document daily activities.
- Inspect areas for safety, appearance, and vandalism; ensure contract staff complete work properly.
- Perform installation, maintenance, design, repair, and construction duties related to the maintenance of the area of assignment.
- Perform plumbing, concrete, carpentry and basic electrical repairs and maintenance related to the area of assignment.
- Service heating and air conditioning units.
- Paint City buildings and facilities.
- Inspect pool and aquatic facilities for safety; perform water quality testing and treatment; maintain water quality for pools, fountains, and aquatic features.
- Maintain and remove trees and stumps for right-of-way clearance.
- Perform weed abatement and vegetation control using chemicals, hand tools and light power equipment.
- Operate power equipment such as weed whips, hedger, chain saw, gas blowers, and tractors.
- Perform herbicide and rodent abatement duties; inventory, store, inspect storage containers and apply chemicals.
- Perform street and traffic painting and striping; fabricate, repair and replace traffic and directional signs.
- Remove graffiti using various methods; document graffiti locations using the graffiti tracker system for internal and external users.
- Perform block wall restoration and construction, sidewalk and driveway repair, and utility enclosure pad removal and replacement.
- Inspect and maintain storm drainage components; remove trash and debris from roadways.
- Set up traffic control for safe work zones.
- Clean and clear park grounds, structures, and parkways of debris and hazards; set up park facilities for special events.
- Install, maintain and repair irrigation facilities; manage backflow prevention devices.
- Plant and maintain trees, shrubs, and color spots; clear sites of weeds.
- Operate maintenance vehicles and equipment as assigned; may operate larger equipment under supervision.
- Perform a variety of maintenance tasks in construction and repair of facilities.
- Maintain records of activities using electronic/mobile devices; inventory materials and order supplies within guidelines.
- Apply safe work practices; clean and care for tools, chemicals and equipment.
- May assist other department crews and projects; may respond to emergency and on-call situations.
- Perform related work as required.
- Common landscaping and gardening chemicals, tools, equipment, and maintenance methods.
- Basic laboring and maintenance methods; safe operation of power equipment.
- Principles and practices of horticulture and landscaping.
- Basic carpentry, plumbing, electricity concepts; basic asphalt/concrete concepts.
- Safe work practices.
- Perform a variety of construction and maintenance activities for streets, landscaping, buildings and/or pools.
- Use standard hand tools and power equipment safely and efficiently.
- Follow verbal and written instructions; establish and maintain effective working relationships; communicate effectively in writing and verbally.
- Learn to use computer, electronic, and mobile devices for job tasks.
- Principles and practices of maintenance work related to the area of assignment.
- Standard carpentry and construction techniques; building and ground maintenance methods.
- Perform standard maintenance duties; oversee contract staff; diagnose and troubleshoot duties; perform minor carpentry, cement, and plumbing work.
- Operate and maintain light/heavy power equipment and hand tools; drive light trucks and related equipment.
- Operate modern computers and office equipment; perform maintenance work independently with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrate cooperation and flexibility with changing priorities and timelines.
