Systems Engineer
You will be the Nuclear Hardening and Survivability Engineer – Level 2 for the Lockheed Martin Aeronautics team, responsible for developing and implementing design and mitigation strategies to ensure the survivability of weapon systems in nuclear threat environments.
What You Will Be DoingAs the Nuclear Hardening and Survivability Engineer – Level 2, you will be responsible for performing NH&S engineering functions to support the development of survivable weapon systems. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to design and mitigate the effects of nuclear threats, including Electromagnetic Pulse, Ionizing Radiation, Thermal Radiation, Air-Blast, and Radiological exposure.
Your responsibilities will include:- Develop and implement NH&S design practices and concepts to ensure the survivability of weapon systems in nuclear threat environments.
- Conduct analyses and simulations to assess the effects of nuclear threats on weapon systems and develop mitigation strategies.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate NH&S requirements into system design and development.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, including design reports, test plans, and test reports.
- Provide technical expertise and guidance to junior engineers and other team members on NH&S engineering principles and practices.

You are a highly experienced and skilled NH&S engineer with a deep understanding of nuclear threat environments and survivability design practices and concepts. Your excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills, combined with your ability to communicate complex technical information effectively, make you a valuable asset to our team. You are a collaborative team player who is comfortable working in a fast‑paced environment and is committed to delivering high‑quality results.
Desiredskills
- Experience working with cross‑functional technical teams.
- Knowledge of nuclear hardened aircraft designs and/or methodologies.
- Knowledge of survivability design practices and/or concepts.
- Experience and/or familiarity with the following standards and handbooks: MIL‑STD‑1766, MIL‑STD‑461, MIL‑STD‑464, MIL‑STD‑3023.
MUST BE A U.S. CITIZEN – This position is located at a facility that requires special access. The selected candidate must be able to obtain an active Interim Secret clearance to start and Top Secret for program. Expected travel is 20%.

Salary and BenefitsAnnual base salary range varies by location: $73,400 - $129,260 for California, Massachusetts, New York (excluding most major metropolitan areas), Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, Vermont, Washington or Washington DC, and $84,300 - $146,165 for most major metropolitan areas in California, Massachusetts, and New York. Position is incentive plan eligible.
