Job DescriptionAdvancing Communities Together is seeking a passionate and skilled Culinary Instructor & Line Prep Cook to support our culinary career pathways and workforce development programs, with an emphasis on the hands‑on component. As an employee, you will play a key role in following industry‑approved curriculum, with planning and implementation of classroom and work‑based learning culinary instruction in the school and in ACTs customized food trailer, providing hands‑on support to participants, and contributing to the overall success of our programs.
You will introduce participants to routine health and safety procedures, kitchen tasks, and other relevant skills, utilizing workstations and ingredients to match recipes. You will be responsible for ensuring that meals are prepared and served daily to our housing program tenants.
This position will be supported by additional training and will provide the opportunity to gain Serv Safe managerial certification, as required by the health department.
Responsibilities- 1. Assist in Lesson Planning:
Collaborate with other culinary instructors or guest chefs to implement lesson plans from industry approved Pro Start and instructional materials tailored to the skill levels and needs of participants. - 2. Hands‑On Instruction:
Provide hands‑on demonstrations during culinary classes, ensuring participants understand and practice fundamental cooking techniques and recipes. - 3. Support Classroom Management:
Assist with the organization and management of the culinary classroom, including setting up equipment, preparing ingredients, and maintaining a clean and safe environment. - 4. Participant Engagement:
Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment by engaging with participants, offering guidance, and providing constructive feedback. - 5. Recipe Demonstration:
Assist in demonstrating cooking techniques, proper knife skills, and various culinary methods to participants. - 6. Adaptability:
Be flexible and adaptable to the diverse needs of participants, adjusting instructional methods as necessary to accommodate different learning styles and abilities. - 7.
Collaboration:
Work collaboratively with the culinary instructor, program coordinators, and other team members to ensure a seamless and practical learning experience.
- 1. Previous experience in culinary instruction, culinary arts, or a related field.
- 2. Strong knowledge of culinary techniques, food safety, and kitchen procedures.
- 3. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- 4. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- 5. Flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic educational environment.
- 6. Enthusiasm for empowering individuals through culinary education.
