Student Interventionist

Under the direction of the site administrator or designee, this position supports student achievement by assisting in maintaining standards of behavior and discipline among students at District schools in order to help teachers stay focused on classroom instruction; the role also serves as a liaison among individual youths, school authorities, parents, and community organizations to clarify problems, improve school‑community relations, and promote safe student practices both in and out of the classroom.

• Serve as a campus resource to students, staff and parents in identifying particular problems and finding solutions to resolve conflicts/distractions that interfere with instruction and learning.
• Advise youth on positive ways to manage conflict and model positive alternative strategies for interaction with each other and school personnel.
• Intervene to prevent confrontations and unsafe activities between and among students in order to prevent lost instructional time.
• Support the educational program by providing information pertaining to potential disruptions and unsafe activities on or near District campuses.
• Attend and participate in, as needed, relevant school‑wide meetings and events.
• Encourage students to develop and maintain regular school attendance, observe school grooming and dress guidelines, dedication to good study habits and respect for fellow students and faculty.
• Work both in individual and small group settings with at‑risk and intentional non‑learners to discuss issues that affect academic achievement and that are counter‑productive to achieving positive educational outcomes.
• Comply with confidentiality, licensing, and legal requirements, as well as the District's code of ethics.

Equivalent to completion of high school, preferably supplemented with college‑level courses in sociology, child and adolescent growth/development, ethnic studies and group dynamics, or related field.

Two years experience working with problem youth in educational, rehabilitation, social, or violence prevention programs.

Ability to be covered under the District property/liability insurance.

This position typically works part‑time, five hours and forty‑five minutes (5.75) per day, and observes the student calendar.

The initial hiring rate is at the first step ($22.73/hour) of the appropriate five‑step salary schedule for the position. The probationary period is 130 work‑days in paid status. Upon completing the probationary period for permanent status, a one‑step salary advance will be granted and will establish an anniversary date upon which all future advances on the salary range will be based.

The examination may consist of a qualifying multiple‑choice examination, performance, and oral examination. Applicants meeting the minimum qualifications will be required to take the exam and will be notified by email communication of the scheduled date, time, and location.
