How You Will Make an Impact
The Substitute Teacher will teach students in a personalized learning environment, collaborating with other teachers to support student progress. This position reports to the Principal or designee.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Meet with students and teach assigned educational coursework.
- Review student work samples, files, and record progress in the Student Information System.
- Notify the School Administrator of student concerns or discrepancies in coursework.
- Adhere to the Independent Student Program guidelines.
- Report student’s progress to the supervising teacher.
- Perform administrative duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of high‑school credits, graduation requirements, interventions, and alternative educational programs.
- Ability to differentiate instruction to meet diverse student learning needs.
- Effective communication with students, parents, staff, and community representatives.
- Inclusive approach with all racial, ethnic, linguistic, disability, and socioeconomic groups.
- Strong interpersonal skills and focus on excellent customer service.
- Independent judgment, deadline management, and accurate record keeping.
Minimum Qualifications
- Valid California Substitute Teaching Permit or teaching authorization.
- For prospective teachers:
- Completion of 90 semester units of coursework from a regionally accredited four‑year college or university.
- Enrollment in a regionally accredited four‑year California college or university.
- Meeting the Basic Skills Requirement (BSR).
- Ability to travel in the performance of job duties.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull objects weighing up to 10 pounds.
- Skilled in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and Education and Student Information Systems.
- English Learner Authorization required.
Physical Requirements
- Mind‑body demands: medium workflow management, medium project coordination, high people engagement.
- Finger dexterity: typing, small object manipulation.
- Verbal: delivering detailed instructions accurately, loudly, or quickly.
- Average hearing and visual abilities for typical conversations and document handling.
- Multi‑tasking and rapid priority changes.
- Prolonged sitting at a desk and computer use.
- Low to moderate noise environment with deadline pressures.
