Department duties:
Charge/Resource Nurse

If the Clinical Nurse serves as Charge/Resource Nurse, the nurse is responsible for the day-to-day shift operations in the department, which includes, but is not limited to:

  • Staffing the current and following shift, assuring that staffing ratios and acuities are being adhered to
  • Entering staffing information for the current shift into Opt Link and on the staffing assignment sheets
  • Rounding on the unit and equipment (including One East) that requires daily checks and ensuring log sheets are complete
  • Managing unit resources in a cost-effective manner
  • Demonstrating the ability to respond and provide direction in changing workload during crisis and emergency situations
  • Interfacing with physicians and their offices regarding scheduling procedures for the Perinatal Unit
  • Overseeing and evaluating the Labor and Delivery unit, including the antepartum and postpartum units
  • Serving as a resource to staff and addressing issues of patient care with staff and physicians when appropriate
  • Helping to ensure regulatory compliance
General duties

The Clinical Nurse assumes principal responsibility for the total nursing care, assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation of each assigned patient and completing all documentation as required. The clinical nurse initiates teaching and educates the patient and family/significant other to attain optimal health. The RN has access to all patient health information for treatment purposes only.

  • Must have 1 year current L&D experience
Qualifications
  • Current CA Registered Nurse License
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing
  • Current American Heart Association BLS certification (maintain current at all times)
  • American Heart Association ACLS certification within six months of start date
  • NRP certification within six months of start date
  • EKG certification within 30 days of start date (excluding those who exclusively care for postpartum patients and newborns)
  • Initial Intermediate or Advanced AWHONN Fetal Monitoring (excluding those who exclusively care for postpartum patients and newborns) within six months of start date
  • Effective verbal and written skills to communicate with people at all levels and maintain positive working relationships with parents, families, and coworkers
  • Active listening skills
  • Compassionate and nonjudgmental caregiver and advocate
  • Able to independently manage multiple priorities
  • Must comply with Annual Health Review
