GENERAL DUTIES:The Clinical Nurse assumes principal responsibility for the total nursing care, assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation of each assigned patient and completing all documentation as required. The clinical nurse initiates teaching and educates the patient and family/or significant other to attain optimal health. RN has access to all Patient Health Information for treatment purposes only.
QualificationsMust have 1 year current L&D experience
- Current CA Registered Nurse License
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing
- Current American Heart Association BLS certification (maintain current at all times)
- American Heart Association ACLS certification within six months of start date
- NRP certification within six months of start date
- EKG certification within 30 days of start date (excluding those nurses who exclusively care for post‑partum patients and newborns)
- Initial Intermediate or Advanced AWHONN Fetal Monitoring (excluding those nurses who exclusively care for post‑partum patients and newborns) within six months of start date
- Effective verbal and written skills to communicate with people on all levels and able to maintain positive working relationships with parents, families, and co‑workers
- Possess active listening skills
- Compassionate and nonjudgmental caregiver and advocate
- Able to independently manage multiple priorities
- Must comply with Annual Health Review

ResponsibilitiesDEPARTMENT SPECIFIC DUTIES: CHARGE/RESOURSE NURSE
- a) Staffing the current and following shift assuring that staffing ratios and acuities are being adhered to;
- b) Entering staffing information for current shift into both Opt link and on the staffing assignment sheets;
- c) Rounding on unit and equipment (including One East) that requires daily checks and ensures log sheets are complete;
- d) Managing unit resources in a cost‑effective manner;
- e) Demonstrate an ability to respond and provide direction in changing workload during crisis and emergency situations;
- f) Interfaces with physicians and their offices regarding scheduling procedures for the Perinatal Unit;
- g) Carefully oversees and evaluates the dynamically changing scene of the Labor and Delivery unit as well as provides oversight of the antepartum and postpartum units;
- h) Serves as a resource to staff and addresses issues of patient care with staff and with physicians when appropriate; and
- i) Helps to ensure regulatory compliance.
