Definition:
Under immediate supervision, installs, maintains, repairs, and calibrates metering and recording instruments, controlling apparatus, data logging and display equipment, communications, telemetering systems, and related control systems; performs preventive and corrective maintenance; conducts testing to identify potential system failures and recommend actions; and performs related work as required.
- Undertakes complex installations of process control components, panels, cables, and systems; determines measurements and develops drawings for installations; orders equipment, parts, and supplies; installs parts, equipment, piping, and wiring per design specifications; calibrates the instruments; tests the systems; corrects any failures; documents control cable routing; coordinates installation with other divisions as necessary.
- Troubleshoots and repairs system, equipment, and component malfunctions using diagnostic techniques to make timely and effective repairs; takes corrective action to minimize service interruptions and damage to equipment; coordinates repairs with other divisions as necessary; interfaces and coordinates with contractors and/or vendors when necessary for installation or repair of equipment.
- Installs, maintains, and performs field modifications of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC’s), Remote Terminal Units (RTU’s), Programmable Automated Controllers (PAC’s), human machine interface (HMI) screens, and telemetry equipment.
- Installs, maintains, repairs, and calibrates automatic control systems, Variable Frequency Drives (VFD), and process controllers.
- Operates the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system consoles; adjusts flows, water levels and pressures for the domestic, flood control, irrigation, and sanitation distribution and collection systems; remotely operates gates, pumps, and valves to test and maintain reliable SCADA system operations.
- Installs, repairs, maintains, and calibrates radio systems including microwave, Super High Frequency (SHF) , Ultra High Frequency (UHF), and Very High Frequency (VHF) , FEMA emergency weather broadcast, and base and mobile radio systems; maintains security access control systems for District facilities and locations.
- Installs, repairs, maintains, and calibrates communication, power, and control cabling, inside and outside of buildings and facilities.
- Installs, repairs, maintains, and calibrates gas detection systems and fire safety systems.
- Performs preventative maintenance measures to minimize failures and maintains reliable operation of systems, equipment, and components; develops and maintains up-to-date preventative maintenance schedules for all equipment.
- Performs a variety of tests to determine if equipment is showing any signs of deterioration; determines appropriate corrective action and implements actions.
- Reads and interprets diagrams, drawings, schematics and specifications in making installations or performing major repair work on control systems and affected components; ensures proper PLC control cabinet layout and appropriate parts are listed and/or described.
- Designs, integrates, and upgrades new systems and/or integrates the design into an existing system; develops wiring diagrams and layout drawings for system or equipment modifications or expansion.
- Oversees the work of contractors; coordinates and inspects assigned work; attends planning and progress meetings.
- Estimates labor, materials, and equipment needed for assigned projects; monitors inventory levels of materials and equipment; orders, receives, and maintains inventory of materials and equipment.
- Observes and complies with District and mandated safety rules, regulations and protocols.
