Description We are looking for an experienced Accounting Specialist to join our team in Palm Desert, California, on a long-term contract basis. This position offers the opportunity to play a key role in ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of financial operations within a government setting. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting practices and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:

- Process accounts payable transactions, ensuring bills are uploaded and payments are made on time while maintaining precise records.

- Generate and distribute invoices to the appropriate stakeholders.

- Accurately code and record cash receipts within the accounting system.

- Conduct regular bank reconciliations to support effective cash management.

- Review and update General Ledger entries, contributing to monthly and year-end close activities.

- Assist in the preparation of financial statements and reports as required.

- Support compliance reporting, including Schedule of Expenditures of Federal Awards, if applicable.

- Ensure all accounting procedures meet regulatory standards and maintain proper documentation.

- Collaborate with internal teams to identify and resolve discrepancies in financial data.

- Perform other accounting and administrative duties as needed to support the department. Requirements - Minimum of 3 years of experience in accounting, preferably within a nonprofit or government environment.

- Proficiency in accounting systems; experience with Oracle is advantageous.

- Strong knowledge of accounts payable, invoicing, bank reconciliations, and General Ledger management.

- Demonstrated experience in coding and processing cash receipts.

- Familiarity with compliance reporting, such as federal award schedules, is helpful.

- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to meet deadlines consistently.

- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Office applications.

- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, for effective collaboration with team members.
