Store Team Member

Overview

Store Team Member role at Academy Sports + Outdoors. The Store Team Members are an essential part of customer service in any Academy store, responsible for ensuring fast, friendly customer service and helping customers navigate the many products offered. This role impacts customer satisfaction, store profitability, and Academy’s mission.

• Education:
  
  High school diploma or GED preferred. Associates or Bachelor’s in Criminal Justice preferred (Asset Protection Team Member Only).
• Work Experience:
  
  Previous related work experience preferred. Operating POS equipment, symbol, and telephone preferred (Cashier Only). In-direct support of people and processes to drive operational excellence and expected sales targets (Cashier Only).
• Outdoors knowledge: 4+ years of personal outdoor hobbies, interests and skill sets; fishing and hunting experience preferred (Outdoor Enthusiast Only). CPR and First Responder certification is a plus (Asset Protection Team Member Only). Loss Prevention or Criminal Justice background is a plus (Asset Protection Team Member Only).
• Other:
  Must meet federal and state requirements for selling and processing firearms transactions (Fishing and Hunting Sales Team Member Only). FOID card requirements (Illinois only) (Fishing and Hunting Sales Team Member Only).

• Excellent customer service orientation; ability to build rapport with customers; bilingual a plus.
• Effective problem solving, communication, and the ability to handle multiple tasks with strong organizational skills.
• Read, interpret, and follow safety rules, operation and maintenance instructions, and planograms.
• Proficient use of basic math and POS equipment; ability to coach others on POS use (Cashier Only).
• Strong knowledge of inventory software and order processing systems (Cashier Only).
• Passionate about outdoors activities such as fishing, hunting, camping; knowledge preferred (Outdoor Enthusiast Only).
• Emergency response procedures and strong situational awareness.

• Ability to work flexible schedules including nights, weekends, and holidays based on business needs.
• Normal hearing, vision, and physical ability to perform duties; frequent walking, reaching, talking; occasional sitting, climbing, bending, kneeling, and lifting up to 60 pounds; constant standing and repetitive motions.
• Must comply with company hours, policies, procedures and rules governing professional conduct.
