Steel Ship Fitting Supervisor

Position Summary

The Steel Ship Fitting Supervisor will act as the subject matter expert (SME) for the ship fitting operations in the shipyard. They will delegate and assign the workload daily for their team, train and mentor new team members, and act as the supervisor for Ship fitting in the absence of the ship fitting supervisor.

Responsibilities
  • Assign and delegate the daily workload for their team.
  • Act as the Subject Matter Expert for ship fitting.
  • Train and mentor new hires assigned to their team.
  • Determine appropriate procedures required to accomplish technical requirements of each job and report back to the Manager of Trades.
  • Assure team complies with all organizational compliance with safety, quality, environmental, and state, local and federal regulations.
  • Responsible for the integration, alignment and execution of duties.
  • Monitor crews and verify work is completed according to project blueprints.
  • Examine metal stock or work pieces to be processed to ensure that specifications are met.
  • Review engineering drawings and blueprints to determine material requirements and task sequences.
  • Direct welders to build up low spots or short pieces with weld.
  • Other miscellaneous duties may be required.
Qualifications
  • 5 or more years of related experience required.
  • High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED) required.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting engineering drawing and blueprints.
  • Strong knowledge of shipbuilding materials, tools, and fabrication techniques.
  • Skilled in layout, fitting, and assembly of metal components.
  • Familiarity with welding processes and ability to direct welders as needed.
  • Strong leadership and team management abilities.
  • Ability to train, mentor, and motivate team members.
  • Must be able to pass a background check and drug screening.
  • MUST HAVE SHIP FITTING EXPERIENCE.
