Position Summary
Oversees all functions pertaining to the Aluminum Welding department. The Aluminum Welding Supervisor ensures the manufacturing process remains smooth and efficient by organizing workflows and monitoring staff. Plans, directs, or coordinates the work activities and resources in the welding department necessary for new construction and repairs in accordance with cost, quality, and quantity specifications. Supervises hiring, orientation, training, evaluation and discharge of aluminum welders to ensure optimal performance.
Maintains up‑to‑date supervision records, completes staff evaluations and handles disciplinary actions on time.

Responsibilities- Direct and coordinate the aluminum welding department on all St. Johns Ship Building projects.
- Meet or exceed production deadlines and budget goals.
- Monitor production schedule, prioritize work, adjust staffing, and ensure deadlines are met.
- Notify Production Manager when outsourcing is necessary.
- Coordinate flow of raw materials for continuous production.
- Requisition purchase of supplies and equipment as needed.
- Recommend measures to improve production methods, equipment performance and product quality.
- Coordinate maintenance on welding and related equipment.
- Schedule employees, approve time off, and ensure proper staffing.
- Inspect fit‑up and tank shells.
- Operate automated welding equipment, layout and plasma cut, and weld airtight, watertight and fuel‑tight seams.
- Read blueprints and welding schedules; work with inspection authorities and in‑house QC.
- Operate safety equipment and practice safe work habits.
- Detect faulty operation of equipment or defective materials and notify supervisors.
- Examine work pieces for defects, measure with straightedges or templates, and check grooves, angles or gap allowances using precision instruments.
- Recognize, set up and operate hand and power tools common to the welding trade.
- Analyze engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, sketches and work orders for layout, assembly and welding operations.
- Mark or tag material with proper job number and other identifying marks.
- Position and secure work pieces using hoists, cranes, wire, banding machines or hand tools.
- Clean or degrease parts with wire brushes or portable grinders.
- Gouge metals using the air‑arc gouging process.
- Use fire suppression methods in industrial emergencies.
- Set up and use ladders and scaffolding as necessary.
- Perform miscellaneous duties as required.
